Our Happy Place!

College and Career READY!

Raising The Bar to Become College & Career Ready!
In order for all students to be competitive upon graduation, we have an obligation to expect more from them. We know that they will rise to the challenge and be better prepared for career and college as a result. This is a video from the NC Department of Public Instruction to explain why we are raising our standards.

From the Principal

The start of a new school year is always an exciting time for educators, parents and students.  Welcome to Don D Steed Elementary School where we will ensure our students are equipped to realize their hopes and dreams. With the dedication and commitment I see from our staff, our students will continue to benefit from the kind of high quality instruction we know they deserve.

The Common Core is a rigorous set of standards for the English Language Arts and Mathematics curriculum which has been developed based on the best practices of schools and organizations around the country and the world. Parents should expect to see students engaged in building their analytical thinking skills and applying what they have learned rather than simply memorizing information. More 21st-century skills will be integrated and the rigor of work will require additional student perseverance and cooperation.

With every new school year comes new students, new families and changes in staff. However, one goal remains consistent and won't change: our commitment to work hard. Working together, our school and our community can and will make this a wonderful year for learning.

Don Steed Elementary is a great place to be - just stop by and visit and we're sure you'll agree.
